Hi, thanks for writing. It is an interesting comparison, and I certainly agree the overarching themes are comparable. Powell, however, was an intellectual. Like him or not — which i’m pleased to say most Britons now don’t! — he was a professor by the age of 25 and a respected Greek scholar. Both do/did attempt to convince the majority that they are in fact the forgotten majority and that they [Powell and Trump], comfortably privileged, can represent their needs. I don’t think the personal comparison quite cuts though. Not least, because Powell was so uniquely British; his upbringing, his education, his language, even his dress, and at the same Trump is so uniquely America.
