David - that is pretty much my answer. There is sufficient reports of these people offering those 'candid' statements. There are similar stories of politicians like Gaetz and Stefanik actually being much more moderate but putting on this act to become popular. Or, more crassly, rich. There is more money to be made in being right-wing and angry than there is simply being right.
